Grad Work
It's not the destination, it's the journey. That's what you'll find here - small projects I've worked on with classmates in nerd graduate school that have helped me grow and develop my skills.
Newspark
Newspark was an initiative to engage a wider audience with important news topics through play. My co-creators Cherisse Datu, Joyce Rice, and I developed a card game to help people understand the water crisis in California.
Newspark was exhibited at the Newseum and at the Smithsonian Museum for Natural History.

Co-created with Cherisse Datu and Ffion Goss-Alexander
Role: Narrative designer
Mental Health Jenga
Mental Health Jenga was the first game I designed as part of my MA in game design. The goal of the assignment was to create a game whose procedural rhetoric matched the ideological rhetoric. In other words, I created a game whose very actions reflected the game’s message. I chose to use Jenga as a base to create a game about stress and used the Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory as an empirical foundation.

Order of Operations
Order of Operations was a prototype game which played with the concept of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Telephone, and Operation. It required 3 players and each was assigned a brain functionality card which dictated which actions they could take. For example, the Temporal Lobe role could hear and speak, but couldn't move. The goal was to place organs within the body in approximately the correct place within a set amount of time, and hopefully learn a little about anatomy and a lot about fun.
